Stardate: 203212

Ok.. I wanted to log this, because Chief is still in sick bay and I might get into trouble for not doing my "regular" duties.  I felt a bit gutted because I take pride in my plasma tube checks and I wanted to know where that green infection had come from. It was only when I grouped it all back together that I realised it was coated with plasma already! Like a shell! I was so intent on opening it up, I didn't check the outside. I'll have to tell Chief, sickbay or not!

Ok.. I just realised. I think we got this "bug" when we were scanning for that missing guy. It's quite possible that we either picked it up, or it was sent to us through the Nidus Dish. Which means that either sent or not, it came from one place. The Mataks

I am shattered. Found the code in the sequence last night and told Doc. She's one impatient woman. I was trying to explain how Gwen and I had pulled the sequence into the holomem, and split apart the various cells and electrons in the holodeck, exploded them out and tried injecting plasma and oxygen and them and how quickly they duplicated, and also that its all to do with cell's doubling which is why we got 64 and then how Gwen had to go back to engineering and I still carried on after shift and.. I think I know why she just grabbed the notecard off me.

Just for the record, the venting system smells of damp. I'll go down and speak to engineering before I go to bed.

Its ok. They're pumping through something to kill of the green particles and some kind of antivirus thing. Should be clear by tomorrow.

Stardate 203210

Ok. I think I know why it's here, and I think its got something to do with so many off sick. I'll have to go tell the Doc, but I'll have no vital information if I can't just crack this annoying sequence. And I think the time I've spent in the plasma tubes is helping me somehow. Going back to holodeck now to try a new formula.

Stardate: 203209

Gwen and I have spent what might be our final day trying to work out this thing. We're getting a little short staffed in engineering, so we might have to go help there. I might spend a little more time after shift tonight to have a final go at working out what makes this thing tick and why it's in our Plasma tubes.

Stardate: 203208

Ok this is strange. Within moments of that thing getting oxygen (well synthesized in the holodeck) it multiplied into another 64. I didn't understand why at first, until Gwen told me the rules of doubles. So while its in Plasma, it's quiet and when it gets oxygen it multiplies. Lets hope this thing never gets oxygen huh?

Am very confused today.  Just spent most of the day looking at that green particle in 3D in the holodeck. It looks very complicated and certainly not one of ours!  We're going to spend tomorrow extracting some of the components to find out what it's meant to do. Gwen wondered if she should talk to Chief, but he's been unwell, so we didn't want to bother him.  A few of the others have been unwell too, so glad to spend the time in the holodeck with Gwen.

Stardate: 203206

Gwen and I analysed the dark green particles we found in the plasma tubes and we've thrown them into the computer nano scanner for more analysis. Because we only have low level analytical clearance, it'll take a few hours to complete. We'll upload it into the holomem and see if we get a 3D view.

Saw something odd in the plasma tubes today. I've been with them so long, you kind of start recognising anomalies. Just every so often, there was a dark green one. Not loads, but enough to see every so often. And you can only see it in the main arteries. The sub tubes are so tiny, the plasma whips along too fast to see them. I've isolated a few and went to show Chief, but he passed me in the corridor looking like he had the flu or something. I'll get Gwen to help me analyse it.

Stardate: 203204

Had to spend most of the morning in a plasma conduit again after Chief said that his rhythms were out. We all joked about it for a couple of minutes until Lt. Gribble came in and told us how Chief's rhythms were the feel for the ship and had got them out of many a crumbling ship. Because I joked the most I got the Plasma Conduit. Sigh. More overdose of plasma particles.

Stardate: 203203

Its almost midnight. Not that it makes much difference in space. It's always dark outside and always light inside. Takes a while to acclimatise to that kind of life. I suddenly remembered that I've left the sports lounge settings up too high. I better hack back into it and reduce them to normal. We're at Ralos 3 and Jay is back there. It's been nice to have him here, but he's a pain in the neck sometimes. I am so tired.. Maybe I'll adjust the settings in the morning.

Stardate: 203202

Jay and I spent the morning in the sports lounge but, after playing that hologram simulation, it all seemed a little "lightweight". So we hacked the settings and pushed them up a grade or two which made things tougher. Was fun watching a few people come out red faced! Jay told me not to say anything, but I might go back and put the settings back after my shift.

Stardate: 203201

One day I'd like to be a visitor on a ship. Because Jay hasn't got a post on this ship, he's done whatever he wants. In the meantime, I've scrambled through more Plasma tubes and tweaked more settings in confined spaces. I returned to my quarters to find he's even raided my stash of Banana Snack Bars. Doesn't he know you can't rez them in the nutritional units?

Stardate: 203200

Had a cool day off today. Chief granted me a day's leave so that I could spend it with my brother before we took him back to Ralos 3. Doesn't look like we might be staying there as originally planned, so it was nice to get time with Jay. Mind you, he's still rubbish a phonic-hockey! And we ran a hologram simulation that has just been released on earth, which was good exercise - much better than the sports lounge!

Stardate: 203199

Oh my word, just saw the funniest sight so far! We were being chased by a load of Matak ships, when suddenly we dropped out of subphonic speed right in front of the Freedom! That is one huge ship. I'd love to serve on her one day. They say that her engineering section is almost the size of this ship. She has so much Plasma generation, she can encompass an additional 5 ships in her shields. Those Mataks realised the best action, and did a One Eighty! Excellent, absolutely Excellent!

Stardate: 203198

It worked! Ha Ha! I can't believe it worked so well! We managed to find the lost crewman and he got teleported aboard straight to sickbay.  Apparently he felt sick when he found out how many plasma shadows he had. Doc is still trying to convince him that it is safe. Ship is shaking a little at the moment, I think we're stretching it dashing back to neutral ground. I love this ship, Captain and Chief know just how to get that extra ounce out of her engines.  If all goes well, Jay will be back at Ralos 3 where he should be within a few days.  Well, that's what he's hoping! It's been nice having him aboard, although I'd never tell that to his ugly mug.

Stardate: 203197

Am happy today, Chief liked it and is going to show the Captain. Am a little nervous and hope it still works in practice. All the tests have passed within acceptable parameters. I've suggested that we feed it through the Nidus Dish which will amplify it's scanning ability but Chief had already thought of that. I guess that's why he's the Chief.  Jay is excited for me too, but it was his idea. Maybe he's hoping to see his crewman friend again.

Stardate: 203196

I think I've cracked it. Managed to upload the algorithm into the systems scanners today for final testing. Had to modify it a little to scan for Plasma Deposits. I'll work on the DNA side of it after it stops identifying people as food. For the record, in case I get an award for design and modification, it looks for minor deposits of Plasma which get picked up through living on a spaceship. I've been able to tweak it to look for the kind of signatures that the plasma on our fleet deposits on people. Plasma's not dangerous, unless you get it 100% spilt on you, but its like invisible pollen and to watch it on the monitor screen's looks like a cool light show of plasma trails walking about! Time to show Chief.

Stardate: 203195

This is harder than I thought. What I thought was the right algorithm, ended up identifying me as a jam suit pudding. Maybe I saved mums recipe's in the wrong data bank. Chief got us all on weapons and defence systems drill earlier and everything looked good to go.

Stardate: 203194

Jay's given me a "secret" project to work on. Said something about a way to scan for DNA from orbit. We've never done that before, only our hand held scanners have been able to localise that kind of information and even then the range has been about 500m. I asked him who's DNA, and he just told me to make it generic for now. I don't mind, beats climbing through Plasma tubes.

Stardate: 203193

Jay's just gone to see the Captain this evening. Apparently the Captain had some questions about the reasons for the missing crewman.

I'm on graveyard shift tonight, routine checks, boring work.. nothing much doing.. yawn.

Stardate: 203192

Jay is being used at the tactical station to help them organise a search pattern. One of the benefits of being an officer I guess. I wish he would tell me more of what's going on, but he's good to his word and never talks to me about things I shouldn't know. Captain was happy for him to be of help as we are all on the same team. Probably need more help from other ships if they are about. Space is a big place to search.

Dear Mum

In case you heard reports about Jay's ship going missing, I wanted to let you know that he is safe and sound on board our ship the GE-Forge.  He said thanks for the Pie!

Will be in touch when we're in a safe zone.

Love you. x

Stardate: 203190

Strange, overheard a conversation in the mess hall today and they were saying that there were 42 on the manifest. Somebody is missing. Jay if that is you, when I find you you are so dead! We rendezvous with the GE-Pioneer in a few hours then we'll know.
